If your idea of Shiraz is big, jammy, and a bit much — this will genuinely surprise you. Grown on a single site in the Coal Valley, just south of Hobart, this is Syrah with cool-climate restraint: elegant rather than heavy, with real length and finesse.

Ripe plum and currant sit alongside olive and cracked pepper, the kind of savoury note that makes this feel more like a food wine than a "big red for the sake of it." It spent 12 months in top-quality French oak (25% new), which gives it a beautifully textured, balanced finish. A warmer-than-usual growing season meant the fruit reached perfect ripeness — which also nudged the alcohol up to 15.3% — but you'd never guess it from how balanced this drinks, so this vintage is particularly generous.

This is the one for a proper dinner — think slow-cooked lamb shoulder, a good steak, or anything off the barbecue with a char on it. It suits people who like Shiraz but find most bottles too heavy-handed, and anyone curious about what a genuinely cool-climate Syrah tastes like.

This release is a small batch of just 1,500 bottles, so this isn't one to think too long about — once it's gone, it's gone until the next vintage.
